Reinvest in Justice Center

It is time to reinvest in justice in Rhode Island. Our state must enact policies to create a more just and efficient criminal justice system. This page will keep you connected to struggles for justice in Rhode Island. By taking part in the campaign you will stay updated and involved.

The Reinvest in Justice Campaign advocates for criminal justice policies that are fair, cost effective, and increase public safety. Our state currently overly relies on prison as a response to crime. This has resulted in a prison budget far bigger than is useful and increasingly high rates of incarceration in the state. These rates of incarceration have detrimental impacts on many of our Rhode Island communities.

In the past several years, the Family Life Center has helped advocate for voting reform to end Rhode Island's massive disenfranchisement of formerly incarcerated individuals; against food stamp disqualification for felons; for a greater emphasis on treatment instead of incarceration for drug offenders; and against increasing RI's punitive response to sex-work. The Reinvest in Justice Coalition includes the Family Life Center, Direct Action for Rights and Equality, Miriam Hospital, and the Rhode Island Office of the Public Defender.
